On Friday, February 24, Roch Carrier ES had a very special "Tree Celebration". This celebration is the culmination of two years of hard work by a group of parents who wanted to help improve the green space in our school yard.
This fall, Tree Canada sponsored the planting of a legacy tree. This beautiful maple is now surrounded by a Buddy Bench. None of this could have happened had it not been for an amazing group of parents. Special thanks go to Sharon Jollimore, Kim Loenhart, Jason Scott, and Michelle Sutherland. The funding for this special bench was raised and provided by our School Council who worked hard to have this opportunity for our children to sit in the shade under our tree.
At the same time, the City of Ottawa planted 20 trees to also enhance the quality of our yard. With the support of School Council each of the trees were fenced and had a watering system to keep the new roots growing.
We could have never kept these beautiful trees thriving all summer and fall if it were not for weekly watering by our grade 5 and 6 students with Mrs Carew and some very caring parents who watered all through the summer.
Thank you so very much to Tree Canada, the City of Ottawa, our School Council and student and parent community!
