Leadership Recognition
“Leadership in the OCDSB is the demonstration of personal initiative to achieve a positive outcome.”
Students
Our student population provides input for our school-wide events and fundraising for the community. Students participate in our annual Terry Fox Foundation run, as well as fundraising for The Kanata Food Cupboard and the Education Foundation. Our students demonstrate caring and leadership through their on-going involvement as lunch monitors, reading partners and kindergarten helpers. Our students also show leadership in sports--100+ students participated in the area Cross Country running event this year.
Staff
Our staff members have a wealth of professional qualifications including Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education, Arts, Physical Education and Sciences, as well as additional qualifications in Special Education, English as a Second Language, Music, Visual Arts, Reading, Guidance, and Computers in Education. They have actively participated in numerous Board-wide professional development activities in literacy and numeracy where many of them are known as leaders in these areas. Many have and will be providing system leadership in these areas. We recognize their initiative by providing and supporting opportunities for further professional growth. We also recognize staff leadership via personal interactions with one another, letters of thanks, school announcements, school newsletters, assemblies, performance appraisals, and our principal’s report to school council.
Parents/Guardians/Volunteers
Our volunteers have contributed hundreds of hours of support for the benefit of students in our school. Our dedicated School Council meets monthly and is providing leadership to our school events, our special food days, our fundraising plans, as well as many other new initiatives. As invaluable partners, we thank our parents, guardians and volunteers on an on-going basis, and look for opportunities to acknowledge them such as school announcements, our principal’s report to school council, school newsletters, and our annual volunteer appreciation event.
Community
We are very pleased with the leadership provided by our School Council who in partnership with the City of Ottawa and the Evergreen Foundation has planted many trees on our property. Over the last few years, the School Council has made it possible to offer extended field trips, dance classes, as well as music and theatre shows. In past years, they have been valued partners in developing a butterfly garden, an outdoor classroom rock garden, and raised garden beds as well as enhancing the playground with painted games.
